Yearling purchase Midnight Sands brilliant in G3 victory
Midnight Sands, a Keeneland September yearling purchase with Johnny Collins of Brown Island Stables, bounced back to his brilliant best at Meydan on Saturday with an easy win in the Group 3 Burj Nahaar.
Making his first start back for Doug Watson following a spell in the US, Midnight Sands made light of a wide draw under Pat Dobbs to assume a prominent position and skip clear for a wide-margin success.
“He did it well,” Watson told the Dubai Racing Channel. “It was his first time out in four months and from a bad draw – I was impressed with him. He’s a very good horse.
“Right now, we’ll go to the Godolphin Mile and maybe we’ll look at the Dubai World Cup next year.”
The son of Speightstown was purchased privately by Schumer Bloodstock and Brown Island Stables after failing to sell for $70,000 as a yearling.
Subsequently resold at the Arqana May Breeze-Up Sale to the Cool Silk Partnership and agent Matt Coleman, Midnight Sands now boasts six wins.
