Yearling purchase Ladhiyah strikes at Deauville for Al Shaqab
Al Shaqab Racing’s well regarded Ladhiyah returned to winning ways at Deauville on Sunday when successful in the three-year-old handicap on the Prix Morny undercard.
It was only the fourth run for the Kitten’s Joy filly, who struck at Cagnes-Sur-Mer earlier in the year for Francois Rohaut. She was given a break after running fourth at Pornichet, which prevented her from working towards her engagement in the Prix de Diane, but has evidently returned a stronger filly judging by the way she dispatched her ten rivals on Sunday’s return.
Ladhiyah was purchased privately by Schumer Bloodstock with Johnny Collins’ Brown Island Stables after failing to sell for $45,000 as a yearling at the Keeneland September Sale.
She went on to turn a major profit when reselling for 220,000gns to Al Shaqab Racing and Mandore International at the Tattersalls Craven Sale in Newmarket.
She is a sister to G2 winner Emotional Kitten and a half-sister to the G1-placed Unspoken Word. They are out of Silent Emotion, a Listed-winning daughter of Ghazi.
Ladhiyah isn’t the only successful runner to fly the Collins – Schumer flag. Other runners of the past two years including Acomb Stakes winner Syphax, champion Victor Kalejs, Spring Mile winner High Aclaim and recent Ayr scorer Markhan, a 94-rated performer in his time.
