Yearling purchase High Acclaim strikes in Spring Mile
High Acclaim, bought for $32,000 as a yearling by Chad Schumer with Johnny Collins of Brown Island Stables, turned in a brave performance at Doncaster on Saturday to land the prestigious Spring Mile.
Always highly regarded by trainer Roger Teal, the son of Elusive Quality showed the benefit of a recent pipe-opener at Kempton, travelling sweetly early on before swooping under David Probert to put two lengths between himself and the rest of the field. Humbert was the only rival to reduce the deficit but High Acclaim bravely held on to win by a neck. The pair pulled two-and-a-half lengths clear of the third in the 20-runner affair.
Bred by Regis Farms, High Acclaim is the first foal out of the Grade 2-placed La Reine Lionne, a Leroidesanimaux half-sister to Listed winner Battle Of Love.
He was purchased as a yearling by Schumer Bloodstock with Brown Island Stables as part of a draft to breeze in Europe – another of the 2016 group turned out to be Group 3 winner Syphax.
