Winning debut for $15,000 2yo purchase

Karakatsie, purchased for just $15,000 as a two-year-old in training, made the perfect start to her career at Gulfstream Park on Saturday when overcoming a difficult trip to win her debut.

Trained by Armando De La Cerda on behalf of Chad Schumer and Stephen Screnci, Karakatsie raced just off the pace in the hands of Joe Bravo and once angled out, closed under hand urging to seize command and win cosily by half-a-length from the experienced Queen Of The Green.

Karakatsie was purchased by Chad Schumer for just $15,000 at the 2020 OBS April Sale. She is from the second crop of Karakontie – with whom Chad has already enjoyed success as the purchaser of G3 winner Kenzai Warrior – and is out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Alexandrite, meaning that she boasts inbreeding to Stavros Niarchos’ great mare Miesque.
