True Emperor wins Crescent City Derby

TRUE Emperor, a $27,000 purchase as a weanling at the 2015 Keeneland January Sale by Chad Schumer, continued his rapid ascent through the ranks on Saturday when the impressive winner of the Crescent City Derby at Fair Grounds.

Making only his third start, True Emperor made all the running to score easily by two-and-a-half lengths from Underpressure. 

The son of Yes It’s True, trained by Lee Thomas, won at the first time of asking over experienced rivals at Fair Grounds in January. Subsequently third in an allowance race at the same track, True Emperor improved again to win on Saturday and bring his earnings close to $75,000.

True Emperor was bred by Rebecca Farm LLC & T. J. Dickey out of the unraced Empire Maker Queen Ofthe Empire, a half-sister to last year’s G2 Woody Stephens Stakes runner-up Fish Trappe Road.
