Troll Peninsula looks smart for Roger Varian
Troll Peninsula justified the patience of his owners, the Niarchos family’s Flaxman Stables Ireland, in impressive style on Wednesday when making it two from three at Kempton Park.
The Karakontie gelding was bred by Lannister Holdings out of mare purchase Perfect Step.
Previously successful on his second start for Roger Varian and shouldered with a penalty as a result, Troll Peninsula bounded clear of his rivals in the mile event for a near four-length success in a quick time.
Jockey Andrea Atzeni was impressed, telling Racing TV: “When I pulled him out, he travelled great into it. I wasn’t sure what he’d find off the bridle because at home he’s been doing everything so easily but he found an extra gear and travelled all the way to the line. He looks quite nice and he’s doing everything right – he’s very professional. Onwards and upwards with him.”
Troll Peninsula is the second smart sort produced by Perfect Step following her first foal Cardini, a Group 2-placed colt for Aidan O’Brien. The daughter of Iffraaj, who was also smart on the track for Roger Varian, was purchased at the Keeneland November Sale for $31,000.
