The King Cheek rules in Sir Barton; dam purchased by Schumer Bloodstock

The King Cheek provided his dam Selfie with a major update on the Preakness Stakes undercard at Pimlico on Saturday when capturing the Sir Barton Stakes.

The three-year-old is the second foal out of Selfie, a winning daughter of War Chant who was a private purchase off the track by Schumer Bloodstock.

Already the winner of three races for trainer Jamie Ness, The King Cheek outbattled Hozier for a head score with the pair almost ten lengths clear of the third. The son of Laoban was bred in New York by Pucker Ridge Farm LLC.

The winning Selfie is a half-sister to the Listed-placed Hitra, in turn dam of French Listed scorer Akemi, and out of a half-sister to French Group 3 winner Sangria.

Selfie also has a yearling colt by REDESDALE.
