Strong Meydan run for yearling purchase Rua Augusta
After a series of creditable efforts, Rua Augusta gained a deserved slice of black-type when third in the Listed Al Bastakiya at Meydan on Saturday. The Arch colt was purchased privately as a yearling by Schumer Bloodstock in partnership with Brown Island Stables after failing to sell for $22,000 and went on to change hands for £65,000 to Stephen Hillen and Kevin Ryan at the Tattersalls Ireland Ascot Breeze-up Sale in Britain.
Rua Augusta bumped into several smart sorts during his juvenile season, running second to Classic entry White Mocha on his debut at Haydock before filling third behind subsequent Listed winner Chilean at Chelmsford.
Meanwhile at Delta Downs, Great Minds took his earnings to just shy of $440,000 when third in the Owner Appreciation Cup Stakes. Successful in the 2016 Grade 3 Texas Mile Stakes, the son of Stroll is out of Staff Nurse, bought by Chad Schumer for just $16,000 at the 2015 Keeneland November Sale.
