Stormy Lucy captures G2 Santa Ana; dam purchased for just $32,000

It was the sixth victory for Stormy Lucy, also winner of the 2012 Golden Poppy Stakes and 2013 Miss America Stakes. She also ran second in the 2012 Del Mar Oaks (G1) and third in the Rodeo Drive Stakes (G1).

Her dam, Here Comes Lucinda, was purchased by Chad Schumer, as agent, in foal to Indian Charlie for $32,000 at the 2011 Keeneland November Sale when Stormy Lucy was a two-year-old. By leading broodmare sire Dixieland Band, Here Comes Lucinda is a half-sister to the Grade 2-placed Thatswhatimean and Atswhatimtalknbout.

Also on Sunday, leading Italian colt Hoovergetthekeys confirmed he is on course for the Italian 2,000 Guineas with victory in a conditions race at Cappannelle. Now the winner of six of seven starts, the son of Henrythenavigator scored easily by two lengths despite conceding seven pounds to the runner-up Uniram.

His dam, the stakes-placed Honeypenny, was purchased by Schumer Bloodstock for $40,000 while in foal to First Defence from Serendipity Farm at the 2014 Keeneland January Sale.
