Stakes win for emerging 3yo Black Stetson; dam purchased in November
Black Stetson provided a notable update for his dam Ida Clark on Saturday when breaking through at stakes level in the Bridgetown Stakes at Aqueduct. Ida Clark was purchased only this past November by Chad Schumer, as agent, for $45,000 in foal to Not This Time.
Black Stetson, by More Than Ready, flashed early speed in the 6f contest to go a length up through the opening quarter. While his rivals stacked up behind to challenge, the gelding maintained his advantage and ultimately held on to deny Nootka Sound for a game half-length victory.
In the process, he took his record to two wins from five starts for approximately $100,000 in earnings.
Black Stetson is the first foal out of two-time winner Ida Clark. The daughter of Speightstown, a half-sister to G3 winner For Rubies, also has a two-year-old Graydar filly named Coco Chola and a yearling filly by Carpe Diem.
