Stakes success for high-class 2yo First Empire; dam a Schumer B/S purchase

First Empire – out of Schumer Bloodstock purchase Silsita – made the anticipated step up to stakes company a winning one on Saturday with a fluent success in the Soaring Free Stakes at Woodbine to confirm his position as one of Canada’s leading 2yos.

Away alertly under Patrick Husbands, First Empire moved up to force the pace into the turn and shook clear into the stretch to win by almost two lengths under a hand ride. In the process he became the first stakes winner for young Coolmore stallion Classic Empire.

The Mark Casse-trained colt was bred by Saintsbury Farms out of Silsita, a Grade 3-winning daughter of Macho Uno purchased by Chad Schumer as agent for $135,000 at the 2017 Keeneland November Sale. Silsita was in foal to the then first-season sire Exaggerator at the time.

Silsita was trained by Todd Pletcher to win three races including the Grade 3 Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway Park and the My Princess Jess Stakes at Saratoga. In all, she won approximately $213,000.

Silsita also has a yearling colt from the first crop of West Coast and a colt foal by Uncle Mo. She was bred back this year to Good Magic.
