Stakes score for consistent Galton; dam bought for $27,000 in Nov 2015

It was the sixth win for Galton, who now boasts nearly $220,000 in earnings. The Thomas Amoss-trained gelding was settled in midfield in the 6 furlong event before making a sweeping run up the inner to take up the running and score cosily by half-a-length.

Bred by the Niarchos family’s Flaxman Holdings, Galton is the third foal out of Nibbana. The daughter of Giant’s Causeway, who was purchased in foal to Mineshaft, is also the dam of multiple winner Luminous Mind. She hails from one of the Niarchos’ most successful families as a half-sister to the Group 3-winning sprinter Dietrich, herself dam of last year’s Queen’s Vase hero Aloft, and daughter of the Classic-placed Piquetnol. She is also a direct descendant of blue hen Best In Show.

Also on Saturday, Kool Kat gained a deserved piece of black-type when second in the Wishing Well Stakes at Santa Anita. The Scat Daddy filly is out of Kona Kat, bought by Schumer Bloodstock for $23,000 at the 2013 Keeneland November Sale.
