Stakes romp for Star Of The North; sire and dam Schumer purchases
Eureka Thoroughbred Farm’s homebred Star Of The North ran out an easy winner of the Darby’s Daughter Division of the Clarence Scharbauer Jr. Stakes at Sam Houston on Sunday to add to the burgeoning reputation of her dam Always A Star.
Trained by Francisco Bravo, the Minnesota-bred Star Of The North is the latest high-profile runner for her dam, Schumer Bloodstock purchase Always A Star. In addition, she is a daughter of Eureka’s resident stallion The Hunk, a stakes-winning son of Speightstown also purchased by Chad Schumer.
“She’s always had a ton of speed and has been very professional,” jockey Ry Eikleberry told the Sam Houston media team. “The only time she was beat was in her first start; she’s been great ever since. The six horse out broke me, so I just tried to hold my position. She was much the best!”
Star Of The North was previously successful in the Northern Lights Debutante Stakes at Canterbury Park and now boasts three wins from four starts for approximately $125,000 in earnings.
Always A Star, by Danehill, is also the dam of last year’s Bara Lass Stakes winner Always Inthe Munny and the stakes-placed Scatter A Star.
