Smart debut win for Raglan Road; dam bought for $15,000
Raglan Road lived up to the hype on Saturday with an authoritative debut victory in the 2yo MSW at Woodbine.
Sent off the $1.90 favourite for trainer John Ross, the daughter of Victor’s Cry forced the pace and maintained the advantage under ‘light handling’ to score by a length.
Raglan Road becomes the third winner from as many living foals out of Glaslyn, purchased for $15,000 by Chad Schumer while in foal to Temple City at last year’s Keeneland November Sale. The Forestry mare is out of stakes winner Extend, an Unbridled’s Song relation to top sprinter Dancing Spree.
Also at Woodbine on Saturday, last year’s Prince Of Wales’s Stakes winner Breaking Lucky took his earnings past the $350,000 mark with a game second to Are You Kidding Me in the Grade 2 Eclipse Stakes.
The Lookin At Lucky colt is out of the Grade 1-placed Shooting Party, a daughter of Sky Classic bought by Chad for $50,000 on behalf of long-time clients Jay and Christine Hayden.
