Smart debut win for $16,000 Summer Front colt
Outragusandangerus, a colt from the first crop of Summer Front bought for just $16,000 by Johnny Collins and Chad Schumer last September, made the perfect start to his racing career on Sunday when capturing his debut on the Swedish Derby undercard at Jagersro.
Well backed into second favouritism, Outragusandangerus defeated Sir Macken to score in the 5 furlong event for trainer Roy Arne Kvisla with Grey Flash, an expensive breeze-up purchase, well in arrears.
Kvisla also trains Swedish champion Victor Kalejs, another graduate of Johnny Collins’ Brown Island Stables sourced through Chad Schumer as a yearling.
The son of Spring At Last won the Norwegian Criterium during his championship juvenile season and added another big race win to his resume last year when striking in the Listed SEK Pramms Memorial at Jagersro, Europe’s richest ever race run on dirt.
Outragusandangerus becomes the third winner for Airdrie Stud’s young sire Summer Front.
Bred by Theta Holding and sold at Keeneland through Denali Sales, he is the first foal out of Everdeen, a winning Lemon Drop Kid half-sister to Red Cactus, who incidentally struck in the Swedish Derby on the same Jagersro card. They are out of stakes winner Strut The Canary.
Outragusandangerus continues the successful Schumer – Brown Island alliance that has also yielded Group 3 Acomb Stakes winner Syphax and classy handicappers High Acclaim and Big Kitten.
