Like so many who grew up in the Derby City, better known as Louisville, bloodstock agent Chad Schumer became a racing fan at an early age. “My grandmother liked to gamble so she took me to the racetrack when I was a little kid; I just kind of got interested in horses,” he said.

Unlike similar young recruits, Schumer bypassed many steps and went straight into business as a bloodstock agent after college in 1993. Two decades later, he has a thriving Louisville based agency that specializes in both global and regional markets. “I went to the University of Louisville for the equine business program and made a lot of contacts there,” he said. “I had some friends who had horses in partnerships.

Seeking The Best, a million dollar earner who formerly stood in Kentucky, has been sold to stand at Haras Gran Derby in Caracas, Venezuela, in a deal brokered by Chad Schumer Bloodstock.

The 11-year-old son of Seeking The Gold was scheduled to stand this seasonat Colebrook Farm in Ontario, Canada, which has been his home for the past two seasons. He previously spent two seasons at Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm in Kentucky.

Grade II winner Read the Footnotes has been purchased for stallion duty at River Oaks Farm near Sulphur, Okla. The fee for the 10-year-old son of Smoke Glacken will be announced later.

Read the Footnotes, who formerly stood at Keane Stud in New York, ranks second on this year’s Oklahoma sires’ list with progeny earnings approaching $1.4 million. He is represented this year by stakes winners Socialsaul and Eminent Tale.

The son of Kris S, who previously stood at Bridlewood Farm in Florida, was sold in a deal brokered by Chad Schumer of Schumer Bloodstock alongside Grade 2 winner Shaniko, Grade 1-placed Tranquil Manner and the Grade 3-placed Dance To Destiny.

Shaniko (2001, A.P. Indy —Sapphire n’ Silk, by Pleasant Tap) won the Kentucky Cup Classic Stakes (gr. II) at Turfway Park en route to earnings of $388,380. He started his stallion career at Millennium Farm in Kentucky and spent the past season at Moon Lake Farm in Louisiana.
