New York Breeders’ Futurity success for son of $13,000 mare

A debut second at Belmont Park, Good Luck Gus graduated by 5 1/2 lengths at Saratoga in late July for trainer Rudy Rodriguez before filling fourth in the Funny Cide Stakes. Although slow away on Sunday, Good Luck Gus took command after the first quarter and was never challenged to win by 5 1/4 lengths. In the process, he became the fourth stakes winner from the first crop of Lookin At Lucky.

Bred by Fred Hertrich III, Good Luck Gus is the sixth foal out of Tacticmove. By leading broodmare sire Deputy Minister, Tacticmove is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Cat Fight as well as Irish Group 3 winner and sire Ishiguru. She is also a half-sister to the dam of Breeders’ Cup Sprint Juvenile runner-up Shumoos.
