New stakes win for Star Of The North

Michael Grossman’s homebred Star Of The North continued her relentless rise through the ranks on Saturday with a highly impressive win in the Two Altazano Stakes at Sam Houston.

Trained by Francisco Bravo, the Minnesota-bred Star Of The North is the latest high-profile runner for her dam, Schumer Bloodstock purchase Always A Star. In addition, she is a daughter of Eureka’s resident stallion The Hunk, a stakes-winning son of Speightstown also purchased by Chad Schumer.

On this occasion, Star Of The North romped by 7 1/4 lengths to bring her record to four wins from five starts for $170,000 in prize-money. In addition to the Two Altazano, Star Of The North also boasts victories in the Clarence Scharbauer, Jr. Texas Stallion and Northern Lights Debutante Stakes.

Always A Star, by Danehill, is also the dam of last year’s Bara Lass Stakes winner Always Inthe Munny and the stakes-placed Scatter A Star.
