Limonaia looks another smart filly for Banga Ridge

Limonaia kicked off her career in the best possible style for Mark Casse on Saturday when landing her debut, a maiden special weight on the Queen’s Plate undercard at Woodbine.

In doing so, the daughter of Lemon Drop Kid served notice that she could one day progress to the level of her sister, Group 3 winner Unspurned. The pair were bred by Christine Hayden out of Banga Ridge, bought by Chad Schumer as agent for $130,000 at the 2010 Keeneland November Sale.

Sporting the colours of Stonestreet Farm, Limonaia pressed the leaders before assuming the lead at the top of the stretch. She lost the lead briefly in a mid-stretch duel with Adelle’s Princess but gamely fought back for a brave neck success. The pair pulled well clear.

Limonaia is the sixth foal out of Banga Ridge, whose best runner to date is the aforementioned Unspurned, a $500,000 earner. Banga Ridge was a talented filly herself who won four races, including the Ocala Breeders’ Sale Sprint, and is a half-sister to the Grade 1-placed pair Sayaad and Coronet Of A Baron.

Stonestreet Farm paid $350,000 for Limonaia at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale.
