KEESEP yearling purchases double up at Meydan
Schumer Bloodstock’s arrival into Deauville for the Arqana December Sale on Thursday was greeted with the news that two of our purchases had won at Meydan in Dubai.
They were led by the progressive three-year-old Midnight Sands, a private purchase with Johnny Collins of Brown Island Stables out of the Keeneland September Sale who made it three on the bounce in the Mina Rashid Handicap over 7f. The son of Speightstown, bred by Flaxman Holdings, has not been out of the first two since joining Doug Watson from England.
Midnight Sands’ victory was preceded by that of another Collins-Schumer purchase in Arch Gold, who struck in the Mina Hamriya Handicap. The four-year-old son of Arch, bred by WinStar Farm, was purchased as a yearling for just $37,000; he turned a fine profit as a two-year-old in training when resold for €130,000 at the Arqana May Sale.
Their wins also came on the same card that Ibn Malik romped home in the Listed Garhound Sprint to provide a nice update for his half-sister Osratty; she was purchased by Schumer Bloodstock for just 13,000gns at the Tattersalls July Sale.
It turned out to be a good trip to Deauville as Schumer Bloodstock came away with a well-bred Siyouni filly, Sacred Peace. She has been placed at Deauville and Chantilly for Stephane Wattel and we look forward to seeing how she gets on in Florida.
