Keeneland purchase produces King Abdulaziz Cup hero
The Milwaukee Brew colt finished fast and late to collar Raleen and retain his unbeaten record in the prestigious Group 1, worth 400,000SR ($107,000). Trained by A. Mishrif on behalf of Prince Faisal bin Khaled bin A/Aziz, who purchased the colt following his debut win, Akheel was winning for the third time in as many starts.
Akheel was bred in Saudi Arabia by Mohammed A. M. Al Tayyar Sons out of Transcendental, a hugely talented daughter of Mt Livermore who ran second in the Personal Ensign Handicap (G1), Ogden Phipps Handicap (G1) and Go For Wand Handicap (G1).
Despite such a race record, however, Chad Schumer was able to purchase Transcendental carrying Akheel for just $17,000 out of the Adena Springs consignment at the 2010 Keeneland November Sale.
