Impressive win for $18,000 yearling Ninety Bullets

May 26

NINETY Bullets, bought for just $18,000 by Chad Schumer with Brown Island Stables as a yearling, broke his maiden over 6 furlongs in impressive style at the second time of asking at Bro Park in Sweden on Friday.

Trained by Roy Arne Kvisla and ridden by Per-Anders Gråberg, the colt came with a strong run to swoop past El Gordo and win easily by two lengths.

“We knew the distance would be too short,” Kvisla told Svensk Galopp. “In addition, the horse has not really learnt to gallop properly yet. Per-Anders gave him a good ride and I think the Ninety Bullets will go on a lot after this victory.”

From the first crop of Frankel’s three-parts brother Bullet Train, Ninety Bullets was bred by Sean Feld in Kentucky out of Masqued Monarch, a stakes-placed Wavering Monarch half-sister to Listed winners A P Is Loose and Hunters Tiger Paw.

He was bought for $18,000 by Chad Schumer at the 2015 Keeneland September Sale.

Other recent runners hailing from the Brown Island – Schumer association include G3 Acomb Stakes winner Syphax, now racing for Godolphin, Swedish champion Victor Kalejs, who won for the fourth time on Thursday, and dual winner High Acclaim.
