Impressive stakes victory for Purging The Stone

Settled near the rear of the field, Purging The Stone kicked into top gear at the top of the stretch and flew down the center of the track to win going away by 2 1/4 lengths at 43-1.

“We came flying and got there in the end,” jockey Uriel Lopez said.

Purging The Stone is the seventh foal out of Miss American Mink (pictured), already the dam of the Listed-placed Minkredible (by Tomahawk) and multiple winner Hawk Over Heath (by Tomahawk). Miss American Mink, by Quiet American, has a two-year-old colt by Artie Schiller and was recently bred to Discreetly Mine.

Purging The Stone maintained the 100% stakes winners to runners strike-rate for the Schumer – Sexton partnership since the pair also bred Tarpy’s Goal, the first winner by Ocala Stud’s High Cotton who went on to land last year’s OBS Sophomore Stakes at Calder.

Between them, the dams of Purging The Stone and Tarpy’s Goal were sold to Schumer Bloodstock for just $14,000 at auction.
