Impressive return for Danehill’s bargain relation
REDESDALE, a bargain $18,000 purchase by Chad Schumer at the 2016 Keeneland January Sale, followed up his smashing debut victory at Churchill Downs last June with an impressive return to action for Brendan Walsh at Fair Grounds on Saturday.
Partnered by Robby Albarado, Redesdale tracked the pace before making a determined run at the leader to win going away by three-quarters of a length and maintain his unbeaten record.
A step up in class now beckons for the blue-blooded Redesdale, who boasts one of the deepest families in the Stud Book. A son of Speightstown, Redesdale was bred by Juddmonte Farms out of G2 winner Harpia, a full-sister to top sprinter and outstanding stallion Danehill. Harpia is also a sister to G2 winner Eagle Eyed, a leading sire in Turkey, and a granddaughter of Spring Adieu, a half-sister to none other than Northern Dancer.
Redesdale was purchased by Chad as an unraced racing and stallion prospect during the final sessions of last year’s Keeneland January Sale out of the Mill Ridge Farm draft.
