Fourth stakes win for Good Luck Gus; dam bought for $13,000

Good Luck Gus trailed the field during the early stages of the contest. However, he had moved within striking distance of the leaders as they rounded the home turn, and bravely responded to Irad Ortiz’s urgings to get up in the shadow of the wire and hand trainer Rudy Rodriguez the exacta.

It was the fifth win from 13 starts for the colt, who was also successful in the New York Breeders’ Futurity as a two-year-old and the Damon Runyon Stakes and Albany Stakes at three.

Owned by Michael Dubb, Bethelehem Stable and The Elkstone Group, Good Luck Gus was bred in New York by Fred Hertrich III out of Tacticmove. He is the sixth foal out of his dam, who is a half-sister to G2 winner Cat Fight as well as Irish G3 winner and sire Ishiguru.
