Cyrus The Great romps at Gulfstream; dam bought for $15,000

Cyrus The Great romped on his second start at Gulfstream Park on Sunday to provide a handy update to his dam Damask Rose, purchased by Chad Schumer for just $15,000 at the 2017 Keeneland November Sale.

Cyrus The Great, from the first crop of Mucho Macho Man and trained by Efren Loza, lined up in the 7f test as the prohibitive favourite following a strong debut and didn’t disappoint, drawing clear to win by nearly 12 lengths.

Damask Rose is also dam of the minor winners Coyote Fly, Macalla and My Golden Rose. By Touch Gold, the mare boasts a rich heritage as a daughter of champion Perfect Sting, whose 14 wins included the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.
