Classic success for unbeaten Siskin; sire purchased by Schumer Bloodstock

Siskin, a son of Schumer Bloodstock purchase First Defence, maintained his unbeaten record in scintillating style on Friday with a brave victory in the Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh.

The Ger Lyons-trained colt had to overcome significant trouble in running to score but such is his explosive trademark turn of foot that at the line, the Juddmonte homebred had nearly two lengths to spare over the runner-up Vatican City.

Siskin becomes the latest Group/Grade 1 winner for the former Juddmonte stallion First Defence, who was purchased by Schumer Bloodstock to stand in Saudi Arabia for the 2017 season.

The son of Unbridled’s Song, winner of the Grade 1 Forego Stakes at Saratoga for Bobby Frankel, is also the sire of champion Close Hatches, fellow G1 winner Antonoe and top Hong Kong runner Dundonnell.
