Chad Schumer discusses the Keeneland January Sale in EBN

January 11

Keeneland sales officials stated throughout the week that prices were fair across the board. Consignors in general echoed the sentiment and buyers acknowledged they were challenged to stick to their financial plans but were able to fill most of their orders.

“The mare market is very strong; It seems like it was easier to buy last January,” said buyer Chad Schumer, who picked up 33 horses for an average price of $21,364. “We have pretty much been on budget. The market is picking up steam. The Keeneland November sale was incredibly strong. I think this sale is as strong, if not a little stronger. The quality might not be on par with November, but the prices are. There is no question that it is a fair market.”
