Big score for daughter of $45,000 purchase

Salt Bae broke her maiden in impressive style at Fair Grounds on Friday to hand a significant update to her dam Agatha, who was bought for just $45,000 by Chad Schumer as agent while in foal to Liam’s Map at Keeneland last November.

The Bernard Flint-trained daughter of Paynter broke like a rocket to assume the lead and control the race. Still racing in hand at the top of the stretch, she powered clear of the field to record a near six-length success despite gearing down near the wire.

Salt Bae is the third winner out of Agatha, a Distorted Humor half-sister to the top sprinter Agnes World and dam of the Group 1 milers Dubai Destination and Librettist. Agatha also has a yearling colt by Candy Ride.

Also on Friday, Lucky Lorretta ran a fine second on her stakes debut in the El Dorado Stakes at Delta Downs. The winner of three of her six starts, the daughter of Jersey Town is out of Soul Of The Gem, bought by Chad while carrying the filly for just $13,000 at the 2013 Keeneland November Sale.
