Another strong run from KY Derby prospect My Boy Jack; dam bought for $8,000
My Boy Jack confirmed his status as one of the leading 3yo colts of 2018 on Saturday when turning in an eye-catching display in the $1,000,000 Grade 2 Louisiana Derby.
Previously successful in the $500,000 Grade 3 Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park, the Keith Desormeaux-trained son of Creative Cause came flying late and wide to take third behind Noble Indy and boost his earnings to approximately $525,000. The colt is out of Gold N Shaft, bought for just $8,000 by Chad Schumer while in foal to the hot Cairo Prince at the 2016 Keeneland November Sale.
Bred by Brereton C. Jones in Kentucky, My Boy Jack is out of the Mineshaft mare Gold N Shaft, a daughter of the Grade 1-placed Gold N Delicious.
The colt currently has two wins and five additional placings in nine starts. In addition to the Southwest Stakes, he also boasts a win in the Zuma Beach Stakes at Santa Anita and a placing in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes.
Also on Saturday, 3yo filly Salt Bae continued her progression when second in the Purple Martin Stakes at Oaklawn Park on only her fourth start. The daughter of Paynter is out of Agatha, purchased by Chad Schumer as agent for $45,000 only this past January while in foal to Liam’s Map.
