$10,000 yearling adds another stakes; also G1 placing for Kelly’s Humor
CHAMPION Victor Kalejs, who was bought for just $10,000 by Chad Schumer as a yearling, added further to his impressive resume on Sunday when striking in the Listed Swedish Open Mile at Bro Park.
The son of Spring Of Last has been an admirable campaigner for Roy Arne Kvisla; Sunday’s victory followed hot on the heels of his success in the Listed SEK Pramms Memorial at Jagersro in Sweden, Europe’s richest ever race run on dirt, while he was also crowned Sweden’s champion 2yo of 2016 following a series of wide-margin victories that culminated with a win in the Norwegian Criterium.
The seven-time winner was purchased by Chad Schumer for just $10,000 at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton October Sale in Kentucky on behalf of Irish pinhooker Johnny Collins of Brown Island Stakes.
Bred by Eh Beau Lane III, he is out of Make A Promise, a Mr Greeley half-sister to G3 winner Essence.
Meanwhile at Saratoga on Saturday, Kelly’s Humor ran an excellent third to Separationofpowers in the Grade 1 Test Stakes to provide another major update to the profile of her dam, Cauy’s Humor. The daughter of Distorted Humor was purchased with Reda Alkhalaf for just $12,000 while in foal to Point Of Entry at the 2015 Keeneland November Sale.
There was also a nice update for the Storm Cat mare Agatha, whose daughter Salt Bae scored for the second time this season in allowance company at Indiana Downs. Agatha was purchased by Schumer Bloodstock for $45,000 at this year’s Keeneland January Sale in foal to Liam’s Map.
And over at Ellis Park, grand campaigner Galton ran third in the Kentucky Downs Preview Tourist Mile Stakes to bring his earnings to over $570,000. Galton’s dam, Nibbana, was bought for $27,000 by us while in foal to Mineshaft at the 2015 Keeneland November Sale.
