3yo son of $13,000 purchase breaks $500,000 earnings mark at Saratoga

Successful on his second start at Saratoga last summer, Good Luck Gus went on to land the Breeders’ Futurity at Finger Lakes before ending his juvenile season with a win in the Damon Runyon Stakes at Aqueduct. In between, he was placed in the Funny Cide and Sleepy Hollow Stakes.

He has been in good form for Rudy Rodriguez this summer, running placed in the New York Derby and Mike Lee Stakes prior to Friday’s win.

On this occasion, Good Luck Gus split horses in the final furlong to score by half a length from One Sided.

Owned by Michael Dubb, Bethelehem Stable and The Elkstone Group, Good Luck Gus was bred in New York by Fred Hertrich III out of Tacticmove. He is the sixth foal out of his dam, who is a half-sister to G2 winner Cat Fight as well as Irish G3 winner and sire Ishiguru.
