2yo Pipes impressive at Belmont; dam bought for $24,000 in January
Promising two-year-old Pipes romped to victory at Belmont Park yesterday to provide a great update for his young dam Introvert.
Coming off the back of two good placed efforts, including at Saratoga on August 24, the Gary Contessa-trained youngster made no mistake this time around, collaring pacesetter Waynes Footsteps at the quarter pole before racing away for a near seven-length success.
Pipes is the second foal out of Introvert, a winning daughter of Smarty Jones who was purchased by Chad Schumer for $24,000 at this year’s Keeneland January Sale. Introvert, a half-sister to champion Forty Greeta as well as G2 winner Honorable Dillon, was in foal to Outwork at the time.
Bred by Fred Hertrich, Pipes was sold earlier this year for $115,000 to his owners Dogwood Stable and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partnership at the OBS April Sale.
Introvert also has a yearling colt by Wicked Strong, who made $75,000 to Harold Lerner and Gary Contessa at the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred Yearling Sale.
