Five in a row for yearling purchase Midnight Sands; G2 next

Yearling purchase Midnight Sands made it five in a row in impressive style for Doug Watson on Thursday when running away with the 7f handicap at Meydan.

The Group 2 Godolphin Mile now beckons for the Speightstown colt, who was purchased as a yearling by Schumer Bloodstock in a private transaction with Johnny Collins at the Keeneland September Sale after failing to attain his reserve.

Midnight Sands was bred by Flaxman Holdings out of the Shamardal mare It’s Midnight and is therefore a half-brother to recent Grade 3 Tropical Turf Stakes winner Tusk.

Following his yearling purchase at Keeneland, Johnny Collins resold Midnight Sands as a two-year-old at Arqana in France for €90,000 – a significant profit – to Stroud Coleman, acting on behalf of owners Cool Silk Partnership.

Other graduates of the Collins – Schumer axis include:

Top British 2yo Kenzai Warrior, the unbeaten winner of the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes and live contender for the 2,000 Guineas

Group 3 winner Acomb Stakes winner Syphax

Swedish Champion Victor Kalejs

Spring Mile winner High Aclaim

Current two-time winning British 2yo Summeronsevenhills.
