$12,000 yearling turns fine profit at Ascot

The Hard Spun – Jaish colt turned a good profit

The European breeze-up season started off in good style at Ascot on Thursday for Johnny Collins of Brown Island Stables.

Brown Island sold two of the top ten lots, both of whom were pinhooked out of last year’s Keeneland September Sale with Schumer Bloodstock.

Brown Island’s best result came courtesy of a Hard Spun colt out of Jaish, a stakes-placed relation to Arc hero Sakhee. Bought for just $12,000 last September, he resold on Thursday for £60,000 ($85,000) to agent Colm Sharkey.

Sharkey also went to £55,000 ($78,000) for Collins’ Shanghai Bobby colt out of Anysaturdayinmay, a winning Any Given Saturday half-sister to Listed winner Mindy Sue. The colt was pinhooked for $47,000 as a yearling.

Both colts are set to race in Dubai.
