$10,000 yearling continues big European run
CHAMPION Victor Kalejs, who was bought for just $10,000 by Chad Schumer as a yearling, added another win to his impressive resume on Sunday when capturing the Listed Songline Classic at Bro Park.
The son of Spring Of Last continues a remarkable run in Europe that also included yesterday’s Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes winner Kenzai Warrior.
Between them, they cost just $16,000 as yearlings.
Victor Kalejs has been an admirable campaigner for Roy Arne Kvisla with his other victories including the Listed Swedish Mile and Listed SEK Pramms Memorial at Jagersro, Europe’s richest ever race run on dirt. He was also crowned Sweden’s champion 2yo of 2016 following a series of wide-margin victories that culminated with a win in the Norwegian Criterium.
The multiple winner was purchased by Chad Schumer for just $10,000 at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton October Sale in Kentucky on behalf of Irish pinhooker Johnny Collins of Brown Island Stakes.
Bred by Eh Beau Lane III, he is out of Make A Promise, a Mr Greeley half-sister to G3 winner Essence.
