$10,000 purchase crowned champion of Sweden

December 31

VIKTOR Kalejs, bought for just $10,000 by Chad Schumer at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton October Sale in Kentucky, has been crowned Sweden’s champion 2yo of 2016.

The son of Spring At Last has won three of his four starts for trainer Roy Kvisla, including the prestigious Norwegian Criterium, and is now in Dubai preparing for a crack at the UAE Classics.

Bought by Chad as an European breeze-up prospect, the colt is the latest high-class performer to hail out of the Johnny Collins’ Brown Island Stables academy. Other two-year-olds to represent the Collins – Schumer partnership include unbeaten G3 Acomb Stakes winner Syphax, a $25,000 yearling purchase who was recently bought by Godolphin and is a live candidate for the 2017 European Classics, classy handicapper Markhan ($13,000 yearling) and dual-winning juvenile High Acclaim.
