A New York open company maiden winner, Ra Ra Superstar won that race at the stallion making distance of mile on the dirt.  He is a son of one of the leading sires of sires in Thoroughbred racing today, Champion Two Year Old Deputy Minister, whose other sons at stud include:

Ra Ra Superstar is out of a mare by Rahy, who has emerged as one of if not the top broodmare sires of sires alive today (more about Rahy as a broodmare sire, from The Blood-Horse).  Currently, there are only three stallions with progeny of racing age from Rahy mares, and they are:

 

Giant’s Causeway, currently the 3^Rd leading sire in the USA

Freud, the former’s full brother and currently the 4^th leading sire in New York

The third horse on the list is a truly exciting one, Posse.  He is currently North America’s leading freshman sire by a wide margin.  Incredibly, he and Ra Ra Superstar are the only stallions at stud in the US today from the Deputy Minister line and out of Rahy mares.  What’s even more amazing is Ra Ra Superstar is also from the immediate female family of Deputy Minister’s leading sire son, Awesome Again.  One could even argue that they are nearly genetic brothers:

 

• Both sons of Deputy Minister
• Both out of mares either by Blushing Groom or his son (Rahy)
• Both from the same female family, Awesome Again’s second dam is Mr. Prospector’s daughter Prime Prospect, who is Ra Ra Superstar’s third dam.

 

Ra Ra Superstar was a $ 310,000 yearling purchase at the Keeneland September sale by Frank Stronach, who would know something about the pedigree as he bred and raced Awesome Again.  Mr. Stronach has won the Eclipse Award as Champion Breeder in the US four times.
